I had been to Western China many years ago, but this time I went to the East of China – namely to Shanghai and to Beijing, on two separate trips.

In fall 1992 I made my way from Germany to Tibet – overland. Using trains, buses, trucks, donkeys and my feet, the entire trip took me through Yugoslavia (which was already falling apart at that time), Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, China and Tibet and terminated in Kathmandu, Nepal. Crossing the Takla Makan (Silk Road Part III)
This is the second part of the Silk Road journey. Crossing from Pakistan into China through the Himalaya via the Karakorum Highway, journeying through the Takla Makan desert and further on to fabulous Lhasa.

Have you ever slept with a jet pilot? I mean: shared a hotel with a jet pilot? You’d be surprised which strange occupations some travellers supposedly have. And yes, Elvis lives – in Karimabad, Pakistan!
